Biographical Note: Luther McKinnon, 1840-1916, was the seventh president of Davidson College. A graduate of the Davidson class of 1861, McKinnon had served as the president of Floral College in Robeson County, NC (1865-1866) and as the president of the Davidson College Board of Trustees (1878-1885). He was elected president in 1885 but ill health limited his activities and he resigned in 1887. The Board finally accepted his resignation in 1888.

Scope Note: The collection consists of McKinnon's 1887 resignation letter.
