Biographical Note
The Tarbelles book club was formed in 1998 with its first meeting in January 1999. Founding members were all employees of Davidson College. The club meets monthly and has on several occasions been joined by such authors as Sheri Reynolds, Steven Sherrill, Judith Minthorn Stacy, Robert Morgan, and Josephine Humphreys.

Biographical Note
The Literatae Book Club was formed in 1990. with the first meeting of the club being held in January 1991. The purpose of the club is to encourage reading, provide for an exchange of ideas and reflection and to encourage fellowship. The club holds program meetings for book discussions and also hosts social events.

Biographical Note
The Tuesday Club is a book discussion group for women in Davidson, North Carolina. It was founded in 1933 by Louise Lingle, wife of Davidson College President Walter Lingle. Club members met regularly to exchange books and to discuss readings. Club members also presented lectures on various topics.

The collection consists of annual program booklets, 1940-1992 and a typescript of a lecture, 1959. The booklets list officers, members and program topics. The lecture was given in 1959 by Mary Black on "Religion in Davidson."

Twentieth Century Club

Biographical Note
The Twentieth Century Club was organized in 1922 by Mrs. W. J. Martin as the Young Matrons Club. The club was for young Davidson College faculty wives and for the first year, the group met as a social sewing club. In 1923, they decided to expand the club and concentrated on book discussions. The original members included Mrs. Martin, Coline Thies, Helen Wagner, Ethel Currie, Helen Gray, Genevieve Weatherby, Rachel Ellis, Sue Forman, Ruth Hengevald, Gladys Potts, and Susan Goodrum. The name was changed to the Twentieth Century Club in 1927. They met every other Friday to exchange books and hear lectures by club members and guest speakers. Husbands of the members sponsored an annual Christmas dinner. The club was instrumental in the founding of the Davidson PTA but disbanded in 1964 due to low membership.
Scope and Content
The collection consists Minutes, 1927-1963; Correspondence, 1951; Membership and History files, 1942-1948 and undated; and Programs, 1929-1962. The minutes contain lists of members, copies of the constitution and by-laws, descriptions of programs and social events, and lists of books. The correspondence mostly concerns membership, while the membership and history files contain clippngs and a description of the 1946 Christmas party. The programs are the annual program booklets listing officers, members, and program topics.

Biographical Note
The club was originally founded as the Women's Book Club of Davidson by Mrs. W. J. Martin in 1899. The name was changed to Booklovers' Club in 1911. Members of this group helped organize two other book discussion groups, the Thursday Club in 1909 and the Thelemites in 1921. There is a report on the club's first meeting the Davidson College Magazine, January 1899, p. 206.

Biographical Note
The Thelemite Club was founded in 1922 as a women's book discussion group. The first president was Mrs. Erwin. Men were elected to the club as associate members at the request of Dr. Moore MacConnell; they primarily planned and attended the social events of the club.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of a copy of the constitution, undated; minutes, 1922-1964; correspondence 1940-1973; literary materials, 1947 and undated; photographs, 1947; programs, 1922-1995; and placecards used during the period 1954?-1957?. The minutes list members, describe programs and have some financial records. In the folder for the minutes of 1951-1953, the 1953 minutes consist soley of two loose sheets; the Treasurer's Report 1952-1953 and the minutes of April 24, 1953. The 1955 minutes include a typescript with handwritten annotations of Lucy Martin Currie's paper on the town of Davidson. The correspondence is primarily thank yous and membership related. The literary materials consist of a typescript of a book with various chapters possible contributed by club members and short stories. The programs are annual booklets that list officers, members, and program topics. The placecards are of two types; one with Christmas decoration, and the other with a photograph of the Chambers Building.
